Cross-docking

Cross-docking and transload in Miami

Some freight should not sit on a rack. Cross-docking means it is unloaded, sorted, and sent onward from the Miami area without a storage stay.

Overview

Cross-docking instead of long-term storage

Storage is the right tool when orders trickle out for months. It is the wrong tool when a container is already spoken for by stores, a forwarder, or another truck. Cross-dock keeps that freight on a short visit: in one door, out another.

The work in the middle is physical. Unload the box, check it against the packing list, break or rebuild pallets, and decide which outbound trailer each carton belongs on. Ocean containers and domestic trailers can swap freight in that same pass. That swap is the transload.

Same-day cross-dock is the standard: freight that arrives with an outbound plan leaves the same day. A customs exam or a short count is the exception, and we report it. You still get a scan of every carton that crosses.

Included

What is included

  • Container devanning

Ocean and air containers unloaded by hand or machine and checked to the packing list.

  • Transloading

Freight shifted between an ocean container, a domestic trailer, or an LTL pickup.

  • Pallet rebuilds

Bulk pallets broken down or rewrapped into the quantities the next stop will accept.

  • Load consolidation

Several small inbounds staged onto one outbound when that lowers the freight bill.

  • Same-day outbound

Received freight with a planned outbound truck is dispatched the same day.

  • Carton-level scans

Every carton is scanned as it crosses, so the record does not stop at the dock door.

Benefits

Why brands use this

Skip the put-away

Freight that never gets a permanent location avoids a storage charge and an extra touch.

Stores see it sooner

Removing a week of dwell is often the whole point of a cross-dock, when the outbound is booked.

Near the ports that feed it

The dock is a short haul from Port of Miami, Port Everglades, and MIA, which is why the cross-dock can turn the same day.
